It is amazing
what a lot of papers Broken Rites has spawned over the years! This
includes newspaper cuttings, back numbers of Rite Lines and Annual
Reports, photographs, reports of many kinds, from the initial
Walking by on the Other Side to
the effect of divorce on children and how we relate to the Diocesan
Visitors. There is a large file on the work done on pensions, which
occupied us for many years.
The files I have now sent to the C of
E Record Office fall under the following headings: Foundations (our
beginnings), Organisation, Non-Anglican churches, Reinstatement of
divorced and remarried clergy, Bishops’ Visitors, Pensions, Finance,
Research, Publicity, Support and Welfare, Papers on marriage and family
not produced by us. There is also a very large number of confidential
letters. This correspondence will not be available to researchers for 70
years, but should then shed a very human light on the church of the late
20th century.
Having sent off the first 20 years’
paperwork, I am collecting again. So please feel free to pass on to me
anything you think will be of interest.
