Tax Help for Older People (TOP)

This service is provided by the Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG), a registered charity. It  gives free advice on personal tax to older people on low incomes who could not otherwise afford professional help. "Older" normally means sixty and over and "low income" is a household income of around £15,000 a year, but these are guidelines and not rigid boundaries. There is flexibility to extend the income limit for the disabled, whose outgoings are inevitably higher, or to lower the age for those made redundant in their fifties or taking ill-health retirement. Family and carers of eligible clients may also ask TOP for help.
