Many congratulations to Broken Rites for
the wonderful and moving AGM and 25th
Anniversary Celebration last April! It was an amazing day, and the
attendance of so many members, both past and present, was a tribute both
to the strength, breadth, and continuing viability of the organisation. I
was delighted that the Archbishop of Canterbury was able to attend and to
be the keynote speaker.
Throughout the year I have followed your
progress closely. The displays at the General Synod of the Church of
England and at the Methodist Church Conference were enterprising ventures,
which I am sure has helped to raise further awareness of the existence of
Broken Rites and of the work that you undertake. The continuing
developments in Wales, Ireland and Scotland are also very important.
I was impressed that a member gave a
powerful interview on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour on the subject of domestic
abuse in connection with a related issue raised at the Lambeth Conference
in July.
I am glad that you propose to undertake
further research on how members are managing financially after retirement
and I look forward to working with you to complete a Pension Survey.
In the meantime I send you my very best
wishes for all your activities in the coming year.
