Spring Report 2008
Should we rejoice that numbers
continue to fall, however slightly? Probably.
We are certainly sad when we hear of
another clergy marriage breakdown. We do know, however, that requests for
information remain constant, but not all prospective members actually take
up the offer of our support, which is good if they find that support
elsewhere, and we don’t usually hear the reason why they don’t become
members of Broken Rites.
I would say that, sadly, our
Associates Membership numbers are also down. It is good to have support,
both financial and active from concerned individuals, as we feel that we
are not going it alone, so thank you to those who continue to be there for
us. If you know of anyone who would like to support us in this way, then
please get in touch with the Secretary who will send a leaflet of
explanation about Broken Rites, which has an application form attached.
Just 2 new members have joined us
this year, and 4 have resigned. Also 3 of our long-term members have
died.
Thank you to those who
have happily set up Standing Orders to pay their subscriptions, this is a
great help and we’d very much like more to do this as each year it is
necessary to send out a substantial number of reminders. (I forgot this
year in the excitement of a special trip to New Zealand).
Well as my term of office as
membership secretary draws to a close, it looks as if I might not be going
just yet. With the agreement of the members at the AGM I am prepared to
go on for a fifth year while supporting one of our members who has just
started a computer course to enable her to take on this role.
Members’ support of one another is so
helpful, but it is vital that we consider supporting the organisation of
Broken Rites for it to continue in the role it currently plays. If you can
offer any skills, like computing (all areas), secretarial, bookkeeping,
etc. then please let us know. There are often smaller jobs that would
relieve those that do the bulk, as well as main roles that are vacant from
time to time.
